International Fruitcake Eating Competition RESULTS

The Winner of 2014 Championship - Kyle "The Hammer" Hanner from St. Louis, MO, retains his title again this year eating a 1 lb Grandma's Fruit & Nut Cake in 2 minutes 33 seconds. Watch the competition

Congratulations Kyle!  And thanks to all the participants and Kevin at Santa's Candy Castle for making this an event not to miss!

4th Annual
Fruitcake Eating Competition
held in Santa Claus, IN

Yes, we are sponsoring this competition again!  Blogging and twitter messages by last year's participant Mick Foley (WWE - Hall of Famer / Legend)  created lots of buzz again this year. Coordinator Kevin Klosowski of Santa's Candy Castle received lots of inquiries asking how to compete.  Participants have come from Pennsylvania, Florida, Missouri, Tennessee and Ohio in the past.  To secure a place in the competition, contestants first had to pass a qualifying event at the Santa's Candy Castle in Santa Claus, IN, held on Nov. 22. (side note: participants told Kevin they would only take part if it was Grandma's Fruit & Nut Cake being served again)

Eight very excited contestants are lined up including Mick Foley and last year's winner from St. Louis, MO - Kyle "The Hammer" Hanner (he wore a shirt with hammer logo and was quite a trip to watch).

Our judges this year include a former NFL football player and a reporter fro WFIE 14 News (Evansville's NBC TV affiliate).

Fruitcake Eating Championship is this weekend

Saturday December 6th
11:00am CST
at Santa Claus American Legion

FREE Event - Sponsored by Santa's Candy Castle & Beatrice Bakery Co

One Customer Sends Poem With Her Fruitcake Gifts

Julia updated her poem this year so I just had to share

You remember last Christmas a package from me
A gift from my hometown Beatrice, NE
When you open this package I know that you will say
It is that good Grandma’s fruitcake, now you’ve made my day
Actually you’ve made my whole Holiday season
So big thanks to Grandma, for she is the reason!
____________________________
A good friend of Beatrice Bakery, who turned 92 years old on her last visit to see us, told that she writes this poem and sends with every fruitcake gift she gives!!

When you open this package I hope you don’t say,
“Oh no! It’s a Fruitcake!  I’ll give it away!”
Won’t you give it a try, won’t you please, please I ask ya!
It’s special, it’s made in my home state Nebraska!
And more than that, made in my home town Beatrice.
(Three syllables please and rhyme it with mattress.)
And one more thing I really must say.
I hope that you have a real nice Holiday.

- Julia (aka - Adelaide) of Exton, PA

Thanks Julia for sharing and THANK YOU for your service in the Marine Corp.

Entertaining Made Simple!

Want something different for dessert that you can say you created?  But you don't have the time to create it from scratch!  Then start with one of our seven signature dessert (liqueur) cakes for a spectacular dessert.

Alone, our hand-made confections literally melt in your mouth.  We incorporated only the finest liqueurs into the batters, and after baking only that flavor remains, not the alcohol! These cakes are available year-round so you can enjoy the Irish Cream with coffee or your favorite beverage on more than just St. Patrick's Day!

The most popular way to enjoy these moist dessert cakes is topped with fresh fruits and dollop of whipped cream.  This is a healthier alternative at weddings, anniversaries, bridal showers or any gathering! Let our cake flavors be what guests enjoy and remember about your dessert, instead of the traditional heavy frostings with added calories.  But, if time allows and you enjoy decorating, these cakes lend themselves to that as well.

In the summer time when grilling, place a slice on the top rack or low heat grill surface, and toast the cake to help bring out the flavor of the cake.  Then enjoy with fruit or favorite topping!

Another popular simple idea is to pair one of the cakes with flavored ice cream and a favorite topping - holiday peppermint ice cream with hot fudge is delicious served with our Chocolate Rum cake.  And Butter Pecan with Caramel topping is over the top when served on our Cahlua Café cake!

Key Lime and Lemon Drop are refreshing desserts by themselves, but try chilling the cake then cube to use for a chocolate fondue!

If really adventurous, slice layers of Cahlua Café and spread each with mascarpone or a rich custard. Dust each layer with a rich cocoa, then top with whipped topping and chocolate shavings for a decadent Tiramisu delight.

OR - Make a trifle by cubing the Lemon Drop cake then altering with layers of fruit and pudding /or yogurt. You can even create a sensational Strawberry Shortcake using our Strawberry Daiquiri cake, whipped topping and fresh strawberries.  And how about a Peach Melba with juicy peaches, tart raspberries over our Amaretto Cake topped with vanilla ice cream.

There are so many more ideas, and you can share yours by clicking on Contact Us. We make the quality products that our customers have come to expect from our brands and we love to hear how you enjoy sharing or consuming each of our baked goods.

Winter Olympic Spirit

2014 Winter Olympics draws us all into the spirit of the games, and to learning more about this year's host country - Russia.  And speaking of spirit, the true Russian "spirit" is vodka!

One can enjoy the flavor of "Russia" baked in our Lemon Drop and Key Lime Dessert Cakes.  We use real vodka to add richness to these two dessert cakes, and with the temperature and length of time the cakes bake the majority of alcohol evaporates but the flavor remains.

Get in the SPIRIT of the games!

'SNACK PAK' Fan

I just wanted to tell you how much I LOVE your Grandma's Fruit & Nut Cake. I've had them in the past and I just received my two boxes of the individually wrapped pieces (handy and great idea on your part).

As I remembered, FABULOUS. My mom had made fruitcake in the past and hers tasted very much like yours. I love the juicy cherries and pineapple and the nuts! And I also love that you very much get the brandy, rum and bourbon flavor. You make a wonderful product and I'll have to try some of your others. The pineapple/macadamia cake sounds yummy.

I just wanted to thank you and I almost felt guilty about getting these on sale as they are very much worth your normal price.

Sincerely,
ys - Wake Forest, NC

Give the little blueberry a try!

Blueberries have been gaining in popularity for not only being rich in antioxidants, that are essential to optimizing health, but also because it is a nutrition powerhouse, a superfood.

As far as U.S. fruit consumption, blueberries rank second to strawberries in berry popularity. The little blue berry is relatively low in vitamin C content when compared with other fruit. But scientists have discovered that the blueberry is loaded with phytonutrients and can improve nighttime vision, promote quicker adjustment to darkness and promote faster restoration of visual clarity after exposure to glare. According to the USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging, laboratory studies show a diet including blueberries may improve motor skills and reverse the short-term memory loss that comes with aging.  So give the blueberry a try!
